New Caledonia: New Crocodilia

from Isolated Continents by The Cambrian Explosion

/

about

New Caledonia: New Crocodilia is ‘world’ music as interpreted through a cheap Casio. Within a concise two and a half minutes, New Caledonia: New Crocodilia manages to incorporate Afrobeat allusions, wah guitar licks, bird field recordings, and a homage to Nigerien electronic musician Mamman Sani, all delivered with an abundance of lo-fi charm. Is this an actual musical field recording Felix Ookean made while filming in 1970’s New Caledonia? Or just the inevitable sonic portrait of an eccentric reptile produced on a dwindling soundtrack budget?
